The human factor or the Posidonio’s clams


To err, to have a slip or to get distracted are obviously human factors, but not necessarily imply a responsibility, in this sense it could be said that I am an irresponsible, since I’m wrong and I get distracted easily. Implies responsibility, premeditated acts, or those made with full use of its senses, conscientiously, deliberately. It should be clear that an error should not be penalized as a deliberate evil, just a deliberate act of malice  should be a crime.

To correct the errors and other involuntary lapses characteristic of the whole people, we are increasingly trusting on the help of the machines, which according to some it is still an act of faith, since the machines are susceptible to damage, although proper maintenance tends to minimize the number of accidents. Increasingly powerful software, sensors, gyroscopes and other technology accessories contribute to greatly increase the safety of many means of transportation. It is possible, if it do not exist already, a technology that frees people from the responsibility of driving a vehicle, a responsibility which obviously increases with the number of passengers who share the cockpit of any means of transport. In this sense, our cutting-edge technology, these fantastic cars with very powerful engines currently are not smarter than a horse, able to take you unscathed from the public bar to your home, although you have the drunkenness of the century.
An employee of a railroad company, who receives a salary for taking on the enormous responsibility of properly driving a train, is bound by his contract to put all your attention on all the maneuvers necessary to carry out its work. This argument is not without legal truth, but in my point of view is as persuasive as that of Posidonius clams. Yes, I know, I will have to explain this.

As the commentator of the footnotes says, influenced by Posidonius, Strabo says in Book III of his Geography :
“Clams stand in general for its quantity and size, in the Outer Sea (the Atlantic), but more than anything there because in this area the high and low tides are higher (than in the Mediterranean) which is likely, the cause of their number and their size, through the exercise they do. ”

Here’s an argument that Strabo himself qualifies as credible, even appeals to Darwin, centuries before the latter established the laws of natural selection, the struggle for survival and such. Highly credible but false, at least very inaccurate, so much as the alleged exclusive responsibility of the driver of the train involved in the recent train accident in Santiago de Compostela. Atlantic Clams proliferate and are generally larger than those of the Mediterranean mainly because the organic matter in the ocean is much more abundant than in this.

Apparently the high speed train has a fantastic driving technology fully automated, able to stop itself when it encounters a problem with the track, but did not stop when entering the fateful curve where dozens of people have lost their lives.

It did not stop because the fabulous automated system has a switch that lets be off of service in those track sections that do not meet specifications. Someone has spent a lot of public money on a helluva automated system, but it can not perform its function because someone has not properly planned the layout of the track. Both “someone” probably charge much more than the train driver. Those who are the authors of the layout of the track, who have  authorized it also, in short, those who have covered these technical deficiencies, are primarily responsible for the disaster, but despite that this information has been all over the media, apparently no one is going to fix that curve, so that the next driver whom is allocated that route, will must take special care not to faint, suffer colic, sneezing, avoid cramps and learn Aikido because any terrorist with this information could kidnap him or just stop him when it needs disconnect the automated driving system. So much for a crappy salary.
